When this option is active, the item under the mouse cursor will be highlighted. This highlight shows which item will be selected in the current selection mode if the left mouse button is clicked.

If mouseover is shown, a hit test will be performed every time the mouse is moved. This could become costly in especially dense documents, so if performance is an issue or the highlight is distracting, it can be disabled. Note that [link=selection_peeling]selection peeling[/link] can only be used when mouseover is shown.
