All interactive edit operations allow numeric values to be typed as a substitute for freeform input. These values can be typed at any time, and any entered number will disable mouse and arrow key input and override its previous value while active. Typed values are displayed in \[square brackets\] in the lower left corner of the view. To return to freeform input, press the backspace key until the entered numeric expression has been deleted. Typed numbers can be fractional, positive or negative, and can optionally involve one basic arithmetic operator (+, -, *, /) and one additional operand. If input cannot be parsed, the unparseable portion is displayed in red. If you wish to negate the expression without having to backspace to the beginning to enter or remove a minus sign, press Ctrl+-, and a leading minus sign will be inserted or removed. Only numerals, the decimal point, and the four arithmetic operators (+, -, *, /) can be entered. Other keypresses will not enter numeric input text, and may invoke different actions depending on the edit operation in use.
